In 1990, Garvin’s Sewer Service celebrated its golden anniversary — 50 years of operations, 50 years of integrity, 50 years in Denver’s historic Golden Triangle neighborhood.
The following year, company founder, Russell Garvin died at age 86.
He worked until the last day of his life. My Great Uncle was a pure entrepreneur. In the pains of the Depression, he bought a franchise, the FIRST of it’s kind in the Denver area.
He was very traditionally a business man of the 1940’s and 50’s. When we had our anniversary party several years ago, we pulled out the archives and found a few “politically incorrect” neckties that were hiding industry-specific scantily-clad ladies within the back folds.
I wasn’t alive in the 40’5 and 50’s, but the images of that time show a hopefulness of the future and industrialization returning to the United States.
It was an amazing time before the unrest of the 60’s and 70’s.
To imagine that our sewer cleaning businesses was around through everyone of those decades still blows my mind!
By the way, THIS was cutting edge in that time, and now when we stumble upon it, it’s BAD news for the homeowner!
